Name of Committee:
The name of this committee shall be the Scholarship Committee.
Purpose of Committee:
The purpose of this committee shall be to set the guidelines under which the LKNEA scholarships are awarded, and to advertise, collect and judge applications based on set guidelines.
Chairperson Responsibilities:
The Chairperson of this committee shall recruit LKNEA members to assist in advertising the scholarships, and to oversee the judging of the applicants. The Chairperson shall report committee activities to the President on a regular basis.
Committee Responsibilities:
This committee shall develop a rubric with which to judge eligible applicants, shall advertise the availability of the scholarship awards, and will judge applicants based on the rubric.
Membership:
This committee shall consist of a Chairperson, and at least 2 members from each bargaining unit, representing the largest variety of members possible.
The President shall be an ex officio member of the committee.
Meeting Times:
This committee shall meet at least twice a year:
Once to determine the eligibility requirements of the applicants and develop the rubric that will be used to judge the applicants, and
Once to determine the winners of the scholarships.
Deadlines:
Application period: February 1 through April 15 of any given year
Judging period: April 16 to April 30
Announcement of Winners: May 1
Other:
The Committee Chairperson shall inform the President of the winners of the scholarships. The President shall determine how and when to notify the winners.
A newspaper ad will be placed in the local newspaper in mid-May to announce the winners.
